How does Happy Tails differ from other holistic foods!
Happy Tails is Fresh & Natural - made & delivered directly to our distributors - naturally preserved with Vit E & Vit C with no artificial colours, flavours or chemical additives!

At Happy Tails we only use Top Grade chicken, BC fish meal (fresh ocean fish) and 100% New Zealand free range lamb meat and bone cooked & dehydrated into meal - no rendered by-products meal!

In our pursuit of "Excellence" we combined all these natural, nutritious ingredients for a total holistic-healthy food for the complete wellness of our family friends - actually a real member of our extended Family!!

What does 'Holistic' mean?
Holistic simply put means entirely, of a whole, used by pet foods as natural - wholesome with all the ingredients being digestible & nutritious!

We all know fats or oil can go bad. How does Happy Tails prevent this?
Happy Tails uses Vitamin E and vitamin C, nature's antioxidant. Vitamin E occurs naturally in plant oils to protect against oxidation and protect the original flavour, aroma and colour of our fresh meats. Vitamin C occurs in the natural form of citric acid.

Are natural foods really better?
Many nutritionists & veterinarians are becoming increasingly concerned with use of rendering practices of the pet food industry, including artificial taste enhancement, colours, chemicals & denaturing products (fuel oil). The pet food industry is largely without any regulation, government or otherwise. The volunteer organization AAFCO publishes a guideline of "acceptable" ingredients to them. AAFCO has no power to enforce its recommendations and no longer tests any pet food.

Since Happy Tails pet foods don't contain chemical preservatives, what is the shelf life?
We recommend that pet foods be consumed as soon as possible after cooking, although our dry food maintains its nutritional value and taste for up to 18 months unopened-after opening should be kept cool & dry - eaten within 6 months for best freshness! Watch for preservatives such as Ethoxyquin, BHA or BHT as they are synthetic chemicals used in making of tires and other rubber products as a stabilizer. BHT is banned in several countries. From documents available - daily use of these synthetic preservatives may cause serious health problems!

Aren't Natural / Holistic pet foods more expensive than grocery brands?
On the shelf - yes. On a cost per serving basis - no! On providing optimum nutrition for health, longevity and performance - no! no! Premium natural pet foods contain high quality, nutrient dense ingredients that promote superior digestibility. This means that your pet will need to consume less Holistic/Natural food to receive the same, or better nutrition. There is also less clean-up.

What about puppy, kitten senior diet formulas?
These formulas are different basically by high fat content in puppy/kitten named foods & lower fat in senior dog / cat named foods ,produced by the pet food companies mostly for market share! CVMA studies show that the digestion system in our pets changes very little from birth to death! The document goes on to say a high density food with sufficient amount of protein, as our product does with over 80% of protein derived from our quality meats & fish is satisfactory for all life stages! DIET formulas from other companies generally lower the fat content to 10% or below & not the carbs, this in effect will just starve the pet and they are always hungry eating everything in site including eating their own stool as well as others - whatever they can find to fill the gap!

How do I know which pet food is the best Natural/Holistic for my pet?
Always - Always read the LABELS! Happy Tails always uses the best quality, freshest ingredients available, as stated! Only New Zealand free range Lamb (no steroids etc) BC Chicken & Fish (BC ocean fish) - with BC vegetables & cranberries - organic flax and spelt from Alberta. We use unprocessed sea salt and yucca plant  supplementation for additional natural health enhancers. All of our nutritious high quality brown rice is grown and shipped from California. We do not use any Asian Pacific Rim ingredients in our food and never will (of course excluding New Zealand - Source of our lamb).

Please Note:
We DO NOT recommend "clumping" type kitty litter due to cats ingesting the litter when licking their paws, causing possible intestinal tract problems!
